Wearable Work Lipsticks (Beauty Review)

Hello Again!

The other day I was telling one of my great friends and co-workers about my new blog (Hi Kelsey!) and she suggested I do a post on wearable lipsticks that are still professional for the work place.

I haven't shared it on the blog yet, but I'm a serious makeup lover. I've been watching Youtube makeup tutorials for about 6 years now and I still can't get enough!

With that being said, I am not afraid to wear makeup to work. There is definitely a way to tone down makeup looks for the workplace to make them more professional, but I still whole-heartedly believe that you can have fun with different shades and products in your 9-5! That's a lot of hours to not have fun with makeup if it is something you enjoy and love.

Lipstick is probably one of my favorite makeup products, which is surprising since I didn't always wear lipstick on a day-to-day basis. It always seemed too "made up", but believe me that feeling goes away over time.

Today I thought I would share my top picks for wearable, work lipsticks (most which are very affordable)!

Let's cover a few basics first:
  • There are a few different lipstick finishes: sheer, satin, matte, and liquid lipstick. The first three kinds are typically in a "chubby" lip pencil or traditional lipstick format.
  • Liquid lipsticks are a newer trend that dry completely matte and are very long-lasting. With that long-lasting nature comes a slightly more uncomfortable, dry feeling on the lips.
  • Matte and liquid lipsticks will last longer (typically through some eating and drinking) versus a sheer or satin finish which will come off fairly quickly and will need to be reapplied throughout the day.
  • Most of the lipsticks I wear to work are neutral tones, but may range from rosy to a true nude to a mauve.
  • When I wear brighter colors to work, such as a coral, red or berry, you will be able to tell below that it works better in a sheer or stain format (Neon or bright lipsticks look more intense if they are opaque in nature). Don't get me wrong-on the weekend I definitely rock a bright berry or red lip!
  • Your skin and lip undertone may lend itself to a certain shade. I do better with rosy neutrals, but others might work well with more of a pink or coral tone.

The Neutrals

Notes: creamy matte lipstick, long-wearing, comfortable, coral-nude
Notes: satin finish, mauve, very comfortable, shorter wear-time

Notes: cult-favorite, matte, comfortable, long-wearing, Kylie Jenner-esque shade

Notes: liquid lipstick, very matte, semi-drying, long-wearing, rosy

This is the best liquid lipstick I have found in the drugstore so far. Some colors are hit or miss with streakiness, but this is one of my favorite lipsticks and it's under 5 dollars!

The Colors
Notes: liquid lipstick, drying, ultra matte, long-wearing, coral, pink

Other high-end liquid lipstick brands that I like include: Urban Decay Vice Waterproof liquid lipstick, Tarte's Tarteist Lip Paint, and Kat von D Everlasting liquid lipstick

Notes: sheer, glossy, berry, shiny, wearable, comfortable

I can't find my exact shade in stores (it's an older lipstick), but I linked what seems to be the updated version of the same product!

Notes: balm-like, satin finish, red, muted, very comfortable

This is probably the brightest shade of lipstick I will wear to work. If you are ever afraid something is too bright or opaque, try dabbing your lips with a clean tissue a few times to sheer it out.

Notes: brownish nude, satin finish, comfortable

This is a nod to the brown lipstick trend. It is wearable since it still falls in the nude/neutral family. On deeper skin tones this would be a beautiful neutral.

And after trying on and wiping off what felt like a million lipsticks, I put on a good ol' lip balm to hydrate my lips!

  1. I love the Sugar Bloom tinted lip treatment by Fresh for my every day lip color! It's got SPF 15 and is very nourishing especially in the winter when my lips are dry and chapped. They have a great range of colors and it applies like a balm making it really easy to reapply throughout the day. You should check it out!
